Mediums of Remembering: Opening Night!

Flower Shop Collective (FSC) is thrilled to announce “Mediums of Remembering”  an evocative, immersive, and tactile exhibition showcasing the innovative works of Amelia Foster and Noel Elias. This unique show invites attendees to traverse the realms of self-written lore, transformation, and the intricacies of the natural world. Drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of Polish, Appalachian, and Ethiopian narratives—both inherited and personally crafted—this exhibition promises a journey through the stories that shape us.

Opening Night: April 20th 7pm-10pm

Where: Flower Shop Collective: 649 Morgan Ave Brooklyn, NY 11222

About the Artists:

Noel Elias, an Ethiopian-American artist, alongside Amelia Foster, a Polish-American artist, embark on a profound exploration of themes that weave together the personal with the universal. Elias's sculptural pieces are deep forays into the realms of memory and desire, focusing on the intimate essence of private spaces and the impact of memory upon their meaning. By incorporating organic materials, transparent fabrics, and repurposed objects into her work, Elias crafts artworks that mirror the fragility and vulnerability inherent in human life.

In a complementary manner, Foster's artistry introduces fresh insights, leveraging her background in environmental microbiology to spark dialogues about our interconnection with the natural world. Her work transcends traditional boundaries, fostering a deeper understanding of our environmental ties and the collective memory of landscapes.

Together, through their artistic practices, Elias and Foster incite reflection on the intricate relationship between memory, the environment, and human existence. They encourage audiences to delve into introspection and to re-evaluate their connections with the surrounding world. "Mediums of Remembering" is not just an exhibition; it's an invitation to embark on a profound journey through the stories that define and transform us.

Participants will engage with the workshop through Nadia's poetics process, inspired by her project. The experience begins with a series of prompts. By treating both personal and shared experiences as data, the resulting collaborative creation between Nadia and the participants takes the form of mini poems.

In this workshop, participants will actively contribute to the creation of collectively-authored poems using Nadia's website and poetics process. The focus will be on themes surrounding grief, collective and international trauma, as well as decolonial praxis. At the end a resource book will be created and participants will receive a copy of this publication after the workshop. :)))
